Lazy-up

Inventors:
Mr. Mario Tell e Mr. Pietro Della Mea (D.Patent UD2007A000188)

Purpose: "Lazy-up” allows to spread out the canopy above the" lazy bag "(the bag above the boom which contains the mainsail) without using the" lazy jack "(a scalar cable system which, starting from the boom, converge at the first crosstree, with the aim of guiding the mainsail into the lazy bag during the hauling down and of supporting the latter).

Description: "Lazy-up" is a holder which can be easily mounted or demounted in a few seconds by one single person in order to support the" lazy bag".

Operation: During the mainsail hauling down, either in port or in harbour, it is important to protect the deck and create shadow using the canopy. One single person (even one without any specific attitudes and practical knowledges), will be able to mount the "Lazy-up” and support the "lazy bag". At this point the "lazy jack" is no longer needed, so you will haul it down and spread out the canopy. When not in use, “lazy up” takes up little space and can be kept anywhere.

The "Lazy up" is useful because:

  • the shipowner may tidy up the boat more quickly at the end of the day, reduce the crew and put back the mainsail according to the current needs;
  • it covers the mainsail during the boat’s inactivity, affording protection against rain and night damp. The lazy-bag actually collects water and keeps the mainsail wet;
  • it can be mounted both on new and on old boats;
  • it is stable even when the boat is heeled.
